EB-1A – Extraordinary Ability Green Card for Individuals with Extraordinary Ability
The EB-1A immigrant visa is designed for individuals who have achieved sustained national or international acclaim in their field of expertise. It recognizes leaders in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics who are among the small percentage at the very top of their field.
Unlike most employment-based categories, EB-1A applicants may self-petition, meaning no U.S. employer sponsorship is required.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, you must demonstrate extraordinary ability by showing either:
- A one-time major internationally recognized award (e.g., Nobel Prize, Olympic Medal), or
- Evidence meeting at least three (3) of the ten criteria below:
- Receipt of lesser national or international prizes for excellence
- Membership in associations requiring outstanding achievement
- Published material about you in professional or major media
- Serving as a judge of the work of others
- Original contributions of major significance to your field
- Authorship of scholarly articles
- Display of your work at artistic exhibitions or showcases
- Leading or critical role in distinguished organizations
- High salary or significant remuneration compared to others in the field
- Commercial success in the performing arts
Applicants may also submit comparable evidence if a listed criterion does not directly apply to their field.

To strengthen your petition, you should include:
- Detailed personal statement of achievements
- Expert recommendation letters
- Press coverage, award certificates, or citations
- Proof of original contributions, patents, or exhibitions
